The Feel Good Revolution

I miss summer dearly and my friends from back home. Ev made this of "the five best people in the entire world." :)

I listened to the song, "The 'Feel Good' Revolution" today. A few lyrics made me miss summer, these people, and home a lot more...

"Step out on a moonlit roof
The radio leads a feel good revolution
cigarettes and my closest friends
I tell myself that I have to remember this
I have to remember this."

Love you guys. See you soon

The Front Porch

The interest in private versus public space is what pushed this series beginnings. In questioning if there was an in-between of those two spaces, i discovered that the front porch works as it. The front porch is the end of a public space and the beginning of a private one, that being of course somebody's home. This photographic series explores the front porch in a sterile, analytical manner, allowing the viewer to focus on the differences between each space. Within these differences sits several things; the spaces are either open or slightly hidden, empty or covered in belongings, and within these visuals, one can also connect the economy, in a sense, to these porches. Some are dilapidated, while others are pristine, some haven't been touched in months, except by the view interested in buying it. These differences are vast in their range and allow one to engage for a long time, experiencing each of these spaces, safely, without hesitation, and without the fear that judgement can bring harm in some manner.

It's been too long

Hello all.

It's been too long.

I am currently sitting in bed, sick....again. This has been happening too often and I will be seeking medical help when finished with this post and when this repeat episode of SNL is over.

Rob Lowe is hosting. :)

Haha. That aside.

I plan to be posting more of my own work on here, like what I am posting to my class' blog for Professional Practices.

CHECK IT OUT!

Day 2 and 3

Day 2:

The Uffizi--amazing. Seeing the paintings I've been learning about for years close up was a bit surreal. Here's some of what I saw.

Botticelli's The Birth of Venus
Rembrandt. Self Portrait

Da Vinci

Day 3:

Today we went to view the real statue of David, done by Michelangelo. It is extremely difficult to describe the size of this piece. It's 17 feet tall, but that didn't mean anything to me until I saw it. Unfortunately no pictures of that. We also took a walk to the highest point of Florence. Tired today.

Day 1: Arrival in Florence

Yesterday was my first day. The airports were frustrating and I was tired. That aside, this is what I saw on my first day in Italy.

Yum.

Carousel. We ate dinner at a restaurant right by it. I had gnocci. :) mmmm

View of the Duomo from my window.

Florence

Hello all. I'm currently residing in a large apartment with 14 other MIAD students in Florence Italy. Today was the first day of a four week study abroad program.

Today is surreal. I do not feel as if I am truly here yet. We walked around and ate dinner. The city is beautiful and there is a lot to see. The night ended with a small cone filled with chocolate chip gelato. Now, back in the apartment I am going to sleep and try and adjust to this time zone.

See you later. :)

It's been a while......

I haven't posted in.....ooooh......about 2 months. School has been busy and it is finally winding down. I have 4 days left of the first half of my college career. :)

On friday I begin moving into our new apartment. It is 3 floors above the one we are currently in, so moving should be reasonably simple.

These photos are from my printing processes final. The project name was "future." That is all the teacher gave us to work with. So, I decided to make people look robotic by printing on metal, but with the time constraint we had I instead bought clear vinyl sticky paper (like what bumper stickers are made of) and mounted them on the metal.

Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara show was AMAZING.
It opened with the band Holly Miranda. They were really good. Their website has a lot of music on it, so if you are interested, give it a listen. Next was Steel Train. A group of 5 good-looking guys playing instruments. :) I liked them too, but I think I enjoyed Holly Miranda more. Overall: good opening bands.

Tegan and Sara played a bunch of songs, old and new. They were surprisingly hilarious. I didn't really know what to expect from them as far as how they would interact with the audience, but they gave us a lot of attention and talked quite a bit. In the words of Tegan on downloading music illegally, "What is the world fucking coming to when my mom is illegally downloading music?" Haha. They were great in that way, but their music was amazing. I love when I can go to a show and the group I am seeing sounds as good live as they do recorded. Here are a few shots I got at the show. Click on the title of this post to listen to Tegan and Sara and watch a music video. :)

Poe

"We stand upon the brink of a precipice. We peer into the abyss — we grow sick and dizzy. Our first impulse is to shrink from the danger. Unaccountably we remain. By slow degrees our sickness and dizziness, and horror become merged in a cloud of unnameable feeling." --Edgar Allan Poe

Just re-read "The Imp of the Perverse" for a paper I am doing. The quote above is from that story and if you click on the post title you can read the whole thing.

My paper is about characters in literature who's sanity has been questioned. I am analyzing the characters and diagnosing them with possible psychotic disorders based on their behavior. :)

This is off topic, but I want a dwarf cat.

The plan:

-Walk the dogs. Ruby and Tommy. :)
>>>>>>>>>

-Wait for a phone call from Younk. haha.

-Go take pictures. :D

-LUNCH!

-Go to the humane shelter to play with kittens and maybe find Alyssa one. :)

-Go to my brothers house and clean it so he will pay me for it.

-Stop cleaning and meet my Aunts at the bar for fish fry...mmmmmm.

-Continue cleaning afterward.

Dinosaurs

Yesterday Paige and I ventured into the history museum on the U of M campus. At risk of sounding like a child, I will hesitantly admit that the dinosaurs were my favorite part. :)

Raptor
The T-Rex and I
T-Rex

I bought Alyssa a shark tooth at the museum, because she has an obsession with sharks that stems from her extreme fear. I share this with her and hope to watch a planet earth episode that has sharks in it this week when I am with her.

Last night in Ann Arbor. Had a delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant with Brady and Paige. Leave tomorrow morning for the U.P.

Who I Am and What I Want

Earlier I posted a photograph by the artist David Shrigley. He also makes videos and illustrations. He has a video called "Who I Am and What I Want." If you click on the post title you can view it through youtube.

This movie is kind of strange and has an odd sort of humor in it, but I personally really enjoy it. It is all animation by Shrigley.

I think you can also find his other videos through his website which is posted in the title of the image by him I put on here earlier.

Ann Arbor

I am in Ann Arbor right now with the beautiful Paige. We are resting after a long day of looking at art, dinosaur bones, and stuffed Michigan wildlife. Will post pictures soon.

Click on the post title for a video treat. :)

Maggie May

Maggie May is my cat. I miss her dearly.
Good thing I get to see her next monday. :)

And I scream for the sunlight, or a car to take me anywhere.

Today I have 4 hours of critique- :\ -then I get to drive 5 hours east of Milwaukee to Ann Arbor Michigan. I will be visiting two of the most beautiful people I know, Paige and Brita.

If Winter Ends is a song I have been listening to for a while (click on the title of this post to hear it). I think I have been attached to this song because I have been sick of winter for quite a while.

"The perfect spring is waiting somewhere, just take me there."

Eyes Like Disappointed Lemons

Cig Harvey is one of my favorite photographers. To view more of her work click on the title of this post. :)

Milwaukee

Milwaukee currently smells like a wet dog. This must mean spring is coming.

I am currently sitting in the dark staring at a computer screen waiting to see if my print is good or if I will have to rip my hair out because I once again forgot to click "no color management."

Pandora is keeping me sane. I thank them for that.

David Shrigley

1.

"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be."

It is now probably lame to quote this book, but I feel that this is an appropriate time to do so.
